Ao dai, a traditional Vietnamese costume, is often chosen to wear on important occasions such as Lunar New Year – the biggest holiday of the year and the most important occasion in Vietnamese culture. Ao Dai has the following features:

✅ Tradition: Ao Dai is considered a symbol of traditional Vietnamese culture. Choosing to wear ao dai during Tet is a way to show pride and preservation of the nation’s cultural values.

✅ Luck and fortune: In Vietnamese spirituality, the red color of the ao dai is often associated with luck. Wearing red ao dai during Tet is considered a way of blessing and creating favorable conditions for a good new year.

✅ Family affection: During Tet, families often gather to share joy and affection. Wearing ao dai can be considered a way to show filial piety, affection and gratitude to family and ancestors.

✅ Modern trends: Ao Dai is not only a symbol of tradition but also a symbol of modernity and confidence. During Tet, combining tradition and modernity through ao dai can express pride in Vietnam’s cultural identity. This is a delicate combination of traditional beauty and modernity of the times.

Grasping the above meanings, VietIS launched the contest “MODERN BOYS AND GIRLS – NOT AFRAID OF AO DAI” and received enthusiastic responses from departments and divisions. After two weeks of rushed implementation, we have collected many high quality photos with a variety of creative concepts. These can be elegant, gentle, and shy photos of people in their 80s and early 90s; or the impressive, youthful, and unconventional concepts of GenZ kids.

The contest not only brings relaxing moments after work, creating a happy atmosphere before the Lunar New Year, but also helps us appreciate the ao dai and the traditional values of the nation more.
